Lake Situ Patenggang

Lake Patenggang

Situ Patenggang is a fairly large lake located between forests and tea plantations. If you like, you can take a boat trip here.
Due to the altitude, it is often less hot here and more often cloudy and misty. The landscape was formed by volcanic activity, millions of years ago.

In the middle of the lake is a small island: Batu Cinta (Love stone). The name of the lake “Patenggang” is derived from the Sundanese word ‘Pateang-teangan’, which means that you have to keep searching to find.

“Once upon a time there was a prince (Ki Santang) who fell in love with a simple girl from the village (Dewi Rengganis). Because of their background, they were forbidden to marry and their paths separated.
War broke out and they lost track of each other. Out of their deep love for each other, they kept searching for each other. After a long time, they met again at a rock. Here Dewi asked Ki Santang to make a lake for her so they could sail together. To this day, in the lake made by Ki Santang, you can see the rock where they met again… the proof of a true, but impossible love.”

Everyone who now sails around the rock together will love each other forever.

A restaurant in the shape of a ship has been built on the edge of the lake. This part of the lake attracts more (local) tourists.
